Conservation Associate

Washington Wilderness Coalition is Washington's oldest and largest statewide organization dedicated to preserving our wild lands and waters.

The Conservation Associate is responsible for providing leadership for all grassroots organizing efforts and plays a significant role in WWC’s outreach to new conservation voices (i.e. hunters, anglers, religious leaders, businesses) and local stakeholders. The position is a key member of the conservation department and works closely with both the Conservation Director in implementing WWC’s programmatic goals and the Membership and Communications Manager to achieve the organization’s membership goals. In addition, this position also supervises the organization’s small canvass and canvass staff, maintains our website, and serves as the conservation lead for WWC’s quarterly offline and monthly online newsletters.

We are fun, passionate for wilderness, hard working, well-educated, smart, strategic thinkers, creative, casual, committed to excellence, occasionally irreverent, respectful of each other, collaborative, politically astute, very self-directed, thoughtful and practical idealists who work hard to accomplish bold things carefully. If this describes you and you've got the qualifications and experience necessary, we'd like to hear from you.

- Bachelor’s Degree required (Political Science, Communications, Environmental Studies or similar).
- Experience working with a wide variety of individuals and organizations, including local stakeholders, community leaders, government officials and volunteers on complex, politically sensitive issues.
- Experience managing grassroots campaigns/canvass.
- Demonstrated initiative and entrepreneurial style, with the ability to work independently and as part of an effective, collaborative team.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills. Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Facebook, Flickr.
- Washington Driver’s License and good driving record.

Desirable skills and experience

- Prior experience working on wilderness and wild lands conservation issues.
- Campaign and political strategy development
- Experience maintaining a complex website using Joomla, Drupal or similar CMS
- Graphic design experience and working knowledge of desktop publishing software (Publisher, InDesign, PageMaker, etc.)
- Prior experience using a membership database

The Conservation Associate is a full-time, salaried exempt position that reports to the Conservation Director. Flexible schedule will require some evenings, weekends and travel. Competitive salary with excellent benefits including generous vacation and full medical, dental and vision coverage.
