POSITION SUMMARY:

Washington Environmental Council recently adopted a five-year Climate and Clean Energy Agenda, a long-term commitment to move the dial on state policy to reduce emissions, use energy efficiently, transition to clean energy, and set limits on global warming pollution that drive a clean energy future. We are seeking a Climate and Clean Energy Advocate who can work with our Campaign Director to shape our five-year agenda, as well as taking responsibility for implementing key elements of the agenda.

Washington Environmental Council drives positive change to solve our state's most critical environmental challenges. For more than 40 years, WEC has been pivotal to enacting our most important environmental protections. From the State Environmental Policy Act to free electronics waste recycling program to finding solutions that reduce our climate emissions and build our clean energy economy, WEC works to make Washington a great place to live and build a healthy future for our state. Our agenda is built on partnerships, including with Climate Solutions, Sightline Institute, other environmental community partners, and most importantly, a broad range of interests that are working for clean energy and a safe climate. The successful candidate will be adept at working with many kinds of people and helping drive disparate interests toward meaningful results.

The position is supervised by WEC’s Campaign Director, and is based in Seattle, Washington.

Duties include strategy development, policy development and analysis, advocacy with decision-makers, participating in and/or leading coalitions, overseeing WEC’s participation in litigation, conducting media outreach, and presenting WEC’s policy goals in a variety of forums. Work collaboratively with core agenda partners and conduct outreach to bring additional strategic partners into the campaigns. Collaborate with WEC and our partners’ communications and organizing staff to conduct media outreach and engage WEC members, coalition partners, and the public in our campaigns. Collaborate with WEC fundraising staff on fundraising around the Climate and Clean Energy Agenda. Additional duties may be assigned within the course of the work.
