The Center for Biological Diversity seeks a full-time paralegal and associate in our Climate Law Institute. The Center is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting endangered species and wild places through science, policy, education and environmental law.

General position overview:
The Center’s Climate Law Institute works to reduce greenhouse gas pollution and improve management for species most threatened by the climate crisis. The Institute initiates cases and campaigns to enforce existing state and federal laws that already address global warming, and to protect species most at risk. The paralegal and associate will be responsible for providing paralegal and administrative support to the Institute director and staff.

Main duties (approximately 75 percent paralegal and 25 percent administrative):
• Preparation of legal documents, including cite checking, completing TOC/TOA, proofreading, formatting and related tasks
• Filing and serving of documents and maintenance of legal dockets, including assuring compliance with court rules in a variety of state and federal jurisdictions, e-filing, courtesy copies, calendar management for administrative actions and court filings, corresponding with Clerks’ offices and related tasks
• Preparation of summaries such as administrative records, compilation of indices, updating of court rules and reference material
• Assisting with the planning and handling of internal and external meetings, travel, and conference arrangements
• Assisting with event coordination such as public presentations, rallies, and hearings
• Assisting with advocacy and organizing efforts such as letter writing and call-in campaigns, online petitions and the like

Essential qualities, qualifications and skills:
• A university degree
• A minimum of two years paralegal experience
• Excellent writing and speaking skills
• An ability to multi-task efficiently and to work well with others as a part of an effective team
• A strong work ethic and a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection
• Paralegal certification strongly preferred

Salary is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and includes an excellent vacation and benefits package. Position is located in our San Francisco office.
